Lessons from a Spider 🕷️🕸️
Lessons from a Spider 🕷️🕸️
The last 5 days the kids and I watched a tiny spider we named Charlotte. The human life parallels were touching. Can you see them?
Every morning as the sun rose we would watch her tirelessly spin her new web. The previous day’s web nearby looking tattered and torn. But there she would be. Creating and spinning even though she would need to do it all again tomorrow.
We watched the wind blow so strong it looked like her web would tear and blow away… but her foundations were strong. She was born to bend and sway in tough times.
We watched her catch little bugs in her web. We watched her sit in the centre patiently waiting for her next meal. The circle of life in full swing.
By the 4th day she started to make little ‘errors’ in her weaving. Missing little bits here and we wondered if she was getting tired. Getting old. We wondered how long she would live. How long does a tiny spider live?
By the 5th day, when the sun rose, we saw the web no longer. It was just a few tiny strands. And Charlotte’s tiny body was wrapped in a ball. No longer full of life. She was gone.

Scripture: James 4:14
“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
What this means to Anna 💗
Watching Charlotte reminded me how intentional God is in every detail of His creation. Her tiny life, her delicate web, her daily rhythm, all of it spoke of His design. Five days felt like a blink for us, but maybe it was her entire lifetime, perfectly written into God’s plan.
James 4:14 reminds me that our lives, too, are like a mist… here for just a moment and then gone and during our life we are going to face the winds, the tough times, just like Charlotte. But rather than making me fearful, it draws me closer to God. It reminds me to place my trust in Him, to seek His will daily, and to cherish the time He has given me. Every sunrise, every breath, every connection is a gift from our Creator.
